Stephan: Vermeer’s Delft

Delft, a city of beautiful canals and courtyards is located along the River Schie, between Rotterdam and The Hague. As well as being considered the birthplace of microbiology, Delft is also the city where I was born and called home for the first 5 years of my life.

On this tour I will take you around Delft, a city very much associated with the colour blue, thanks to its connections with Johannes Vermeer and the famous blue earthenware that has been produced here since the 17th century. We will discover how several major disasters changed the shape of the city, and how it came to be connected to the House of Orange-Nassau.
